Pham Van Hang is the first sculptor who set up his own statue garden in Danang, and later in Go Vap and Dalat. Using human bones in his works to express the terror of wars, he once made a shocking exhibition in Saigon before 1975. Having quit military service in the past, he is a person who hates wars and armament, and therefore, the symbols of the heart and of the pigeon are often seen in his works. It is Sculptor Pham Van Hang, an eccentric soul and character.
He was born in 1942 (in the Year of Horse) in Nam O Village, Hoa Hiep Commune, Hoa Vang District, Quang Nam - Danang Province. Member of Vietnam Art Association and member of Ho Chi Minh City Art Association. Liberal and unconventional, he is an unusual person in the way he dresses and in the way he built his house. His house in Cay Tram Street is a complex in the form of a lingam which is about as high as a four-storey building and that is the biggest man-inhabited lingam in Southeastern Asia.
